[0002] Packaging for horticultural products
[0004] Technical field of the invention
[0006] The present invention corresponds to the technical field of fruit and vegetable packaging, as a tray for packaging, transporting and marketing products such as fruits and vegetables, without ruling out other types of products. The object of the invention is to provide the market and the general public with a packaging means that replaces the classic trays or plastic containers.
[0008] The container of the invention is obtained in corrugated cardboard, and is only closed on the top by heat sealing a plastic sheet, preferably recyclable or compostable, thus minimizing the use of this type of polluting products.
[0010] Background of the Invention
[0012] In the packaging, transport and marketing of fruit and vegetable products, it is common to use containers or trays obtained in plastic by molding. Undoubtedly, this material has the advantages of a low cost while making it possible for the consumer to view the contents of the container. Now, plastic is a material that, as is known, is a significant ecological problem due to the large number of years it takes for its degradation and decomposition. There is therefore a growing need to find alternatives to this type of packaging.
[0014] On the other hand, the products contained in this type of trays can deteriorate or be damaged due to the low physical-mechanical protection of the plastic, unless it has a substantial wall thickness, which represents an extra contribution of material that is clearly undesirable. In other words, the trays or containers traditionally used must guarantee a minimum of structural resistance that can only be achieved by using significant amounts of plastic.
[0016] Another drawback is that this type of trays or plastic containers do not allow direct stamping on them of the trademarks or product specifications they contain, so it is necessary to resort to these effects, labels Adhesives or strips also of other materials adding cost and difficulty when it comes to recycling.
[0018] Another important advantage of the use of cardboard is that ventilation can be customized by establishing ventilation holes of different dimensions and positions on the container, according to the needs of each case.
[0020] As a solution to this problem, there are some containers made of other materials that try to replace said plastic containers, but they must have a certain shape to be able to take advantage of the production lines for plastic containers.
[0022] In this sense, some thermoformed cellulose containers appeared a few years ago, which although they fulfill the function of packaging the product under adequate conditions, present difficulties in maintaining the transport characteristics and protection of their content since they are affected by temperature and moisture in the logistics chain (they get wet more easily and become weak, thus losing the mechanical and safety protection of the product). In addition, containers of this material have been presenting problems in heat-sealing lines, for which reason it was usually necessary to introduce them into a plastic container to pass through the production line. This poses problems and excessive times on the packaging line. Furthermore, this type of thermoformed containers also present the problem indicated above for plastics that they do not allow direct stamping on them of the trademarks or product specifications they contain, so it is necessary to resort to these effects, to adhesive labels or strips.
[0024] Other modalities that arise trying to solve this problem, propose cardboard containers, which have a kind of flange or canopy in the upper contour of the sides, to allow this heat-sealing. This material performs better than cellulose, but it still has a problem because that lip or canopy, when passing through the heat seal lines, shrinks, rising, due to the memory of the cardboard material. The products known to date with these characteristics also have the significant drawback that it is necessary to change the mold in the heat-sealing lines.
[0026] There is no product in the state of the art that satisfactorily meets the conditions set out here, allowing a correct packaging of the product and a adequate behavior in the production lines that allow a closure by heat sealing of the container while maintaining the conditions and characteristics of the same.
[0028] Description of the invention
[0030] The packaging for fruit and vegetable products presented here is made up of a cardboard sheet, stamped with cut and fold lines, establishing in said development a rectangular central sector as the bottom, which presents a chamfered joint between each two sides. contiguous of the same.
[0032] This container also comprises four side walls facing each other and equal two by two, two of which are larger than the other two, and which emerge through folding lines, from the sides of greater and lesser dimension of the bottom respectively, and at least one first wall chamfer between each two adjoining side walls, configured in correspondence with the corresponding chamfered joint, where each chamfer wall has an inverted trapezoidal shape and at least the first chamfer wall emerges from one of said adjoining side walls by folding lines.
[0034] The container in turn comprises a flange for fixing the at least one chamfer wall of each chamfered joint, to the container, and a flap that has at least one central area that emerges through fold lines, from the upper end of the four side walls as a horizontal perimeter cantilever for fixing by heat sealing a plastic sheet to close the container.
[0036] Likewise, the flaps of two facing side walls present a first bending that emerges from both ends of the central area of the same towards the interior and according to the edge of the mouth that determine the chamfer walls, where said flaps have a first portion overlapping with the adjacent side wall flaps, arranged in said first bend.
[0038] In this report, a process for making a container for fruit and vegetable products is proposed, which comprises the phases of punching a cardboard sheet, the folding of the two-by-two facing side walls of the container, along the folding lines that form them. separates from the central sector, the bending of the fixing tabs of the minus one chamfer wall of each chamfered joint of the rectangular central sector, and the gluing of the fixing tabs to the container.
[0040] This procedure also includes additional phases that are as follows:
[0042] A first additional phase of folding the flaps at the upper end of the side walls of the container to a position parallel to the central sector.
[0044] Next, a second additional phase of placing the at least first bending of the flaps of facing side walls, according to the mouth of the at least one chamfer wall.
[0046] And, finally, a third phase of superposition of a first coupling portion of the first bending of the flaps of two facing side walls with the flaps of the adjoining side walls.
[0048] With the packaging for fruit and vegetable products proposed here, a significant improvement in the state of the art is obtained.
[0050] This is so because a container is achieved that fully satisfactorily solves the problems previously exposed, by means of a simple and effective solution.
[0052] It is a container made entirely of cardboard, preferably corrugated, which is completely respectful with the environment, it is easy to recycle making it an ecological material, and the container is smaller and lighter, making it a practical material to transport .
[0054] As they are preferably made of corrugated cardboard, a better structural response is achieved and a perfect performance in packaging lines and their handling at origin and destination, thanks to the fact that corrugated cardboard is stronger than compact cardboard.
[0056] A container is also achieved that allows a closure by heat sealing, effectively protecting the product contained in it and at the same time allowing the product to be seen through the transparent plastic film and thus achieving a box that combines the properties of printing and recycled, typical of cardboard, with the advantages visibility and good protection provided by the plastic closure.
[0058] It is an easy-to-assemble container that fits seamlessly into automated production and filling lines.
[0060] Another advantage that the container of the invention presents is that, since it has a polygonal plant with chamfered corners, there are no sharp edges likely to be struck and it allows an advantageous movement in automated high-speed packaging lines.
[0062] In addition, the at least one first bending of the flaps, which make up the roofs of the chamfer walls, are completely independent of said chamfer walls, which allows these roofs to remain in place when the heat sealing phase is carried out, avoiding unwanted folds or elevations that deform the desirable shape of the container.
[0064] Being constituted as independent parts of the chamfered sides, they perform adequately and the package maintains the desirable shape.
[0066] It is therefore a very effective container that solves the existing problems and achieves a recyclable, simple and practical container.

[0087] Detailed description of a preferred embodiment of the invention
[0089] In view of the figures provided, it can be seen how, in a first preferred embodiment of the invention, the container (1) for fruit and vegetable products proposed here, which is constituted from a sheet (2) of cardboard, stamped with cut and fold lines, such that in said development a rectangular central sector (3) is established as a background, which presents a chamfered joint between each two contiguous sides thereof, comprises four side walls (4) facing each other and two equal two, two of them being larger than the other two and emerging by folding lines (5), from the sides of the largest and smallest dimension of the bottom, respectively.
[0091] This container (1) comprises at least one first chamfer wall (6) between each two adjacent side walls (4), configured in correspondence with the corresponding chamfered joint, where each chamfer wall has an inverted trapezoidal shape and at least the first wall chamfer (6) emerges from one of said adjacent side walls (4) by folding lines (5).
[0093] Likewise, it comprises a fixing flange (7) of the at least one chamfer wall (6) of each chamfered joint, to the container (1) and, a flap (8) that has at least one central area (8.1) that emerges by fold lines (5) from the upper end of the four side walls (4) as a horizontal perimeter cantilever for fixing by heat sealing a plastic sheet for closing the container.
[0095] Said flaps (8) of two facing side walls (4) present a first bend (9) that emerges from both ends of the central zone (8.1) of said flaps (8) towards the inside, according to the edge of the mouth that they determine the chamfer walls (6), and have a first coupling portion (9.1) by superposition with the flaps (8) of adjoining side walls (4), arranged in said first bend (9).
[0097] In this first preferred embodiment of the invention, the cardboard sheet (2) that makes up the container (1) is formed by corrugated cardboard.
[0099] As shown in Figures 1 and 2, in this first embodiment, the container (1) has four chamfer walls (6) each arranged between each two adjacent side walls (4), forming an octagonal contour.
[0101] The central rectangular sector (3) with background functions has two major sides and two minor sides, from which emerge the major and minor side walls (4.1, 4.2) respectively, of the container.
[0103] In this first preferred embodiment of the invention, the chamfer walls (6) emerge from both sides of two facing side walls, in this case being the larger side walls (4.1) in particular.
[0105] In other embodiments, as is the case of a third and fourth embodiment shown in Figures 5 and 6 respectively, said chamfer wall (6) can emerge from both sides of the smaller side walls (4.2).
[0107] As can be seen in said Figures 1 and 2, in this first embodiment, this container (1) comprises a fixing flange (7) of the chamfer wall of each chamfered joint, to the container (1). In this case, said fixing flange (7) emerges from the free end of each chamfer wall (6) and has a shape suitable for gluing onto the adjoining side wall, which in this case is a smaller side wall (4.2).
[0109] Furthermore, as shown in Figure 2, in the first preferred embodiment of the invention, the fixing by gluing of the fixing tabs (7) is carried out externally to said minor side wall (4.2). In other embodiments, it can be internally glued to the adjacent side wall.
[0111] In other embodiments, as is the case of the fourth embodiment shown in Figure 6, the fixing flange (7) does not emerge from the chamfer wall (6), but rather emerges from the sides of the walls. sides contiguous to those from which the chamfer wall (6) emerges and has a shape suitable for gluing on it. In this case, it emerges from the larger side walls (4.1) and is glued on the chamfer wall (6).
[0113] Regarding the flaps (8), it can be seen how the first preferred embodiment of the invention, the container (1) has a flap (8) with a central area (8.1) that emerges through folding lines (5) from the upper end of the four side walls (4), as a horizontal perimeter cantilever.
[0115] In this first preferred embodiment of the invention, the flaps (8) of the two smaller side walls (4.2), from which in this case the chamfer walls (6) do not emerge, are the ones with the first bends ( 9) emerging from the central area (8.1) thereof and having a greater length than that of the mouth of the chamfer wall (6) of the corresponding chamfered joint.
[0117] In other embodiments, such as the third and fourth embodiments shown in Figures 5 and 6, the first kinks (9) with a length greater than the mouth of the chamfer wall (6), emerge from the central zone (8.1) of the flaps (8) of the smaller side walls (4.2), from which the chamfer walls (6) emerge.
[0119] Likewise, in the first preferred embodiment of the invention, the larger side walls (4.1) present at both ends of their flap (8) a second bend (10) that emerges from the central area (8.1) thereof, shorter than said first kinks (9).
[0121] Said second bends (10) have a second coupling portion (10.1) for overlapping with the first coupling portion (9.1) and, in this case, said second coupling portion (10.1) is coincident with the second bending (10) In its whole.
[0123] In other embodiments, such as the case of a fifth embodiment shown in Figure 7, the smaller side walls (4.2), adjacent to the walls The larger lateral sides (4.1) that present the first bends (9), do not present any bending of the flaps (8), so that the first coupling portion (9.1) of said first bends (9) directly overlaps the central area (8.1) of the flaps (8) of the minor side walls (4.2).
[0125] As shown in Figure 2, in the first preferred embodiment of the invention, the first coupling portion (9.1) of the first bends (9) is fixed by gluing superiorly to the second coupling portion (10.1) of the second corresponding elbow (10). In other embodiments, the first coupling portion (9.1) can be fixed by gluing inferiorly to the second coupling portion (10.1) or they can even be fixed by coupling without there being any gluing between them.
[0127] In this specification a second preferred embodiment of the invention is also proposed, which is shown in Figures 3 and 4, in which the container (1) comprises four side walls (4) and, between each two adjacent side walls, has two chamfer walls (6), so that a dodecahedral contour is formed.
[0129] In this case, the chamfer walls (6) emerge consecutively from each of the two sides of the larger side walls (4.1), by means of fold lines (5).
[0131] As shown in Figure 3, the four side walls (4) have a flap (8) with a central area (8.1) that emerges from the upper end thereof. In this case, from said central area (8.1) of the flaps (8) of the larger side walls (4.1) emerge some first bends (9) that have a length less than the length of the mouth of the total chamfer walls ( 6). These first bends (9) have a first coupling portion (9.1).
[0133] In the same way, the smaller side walls (4.2), contiguous to the previous ones, present at both ends of the central zone (8.1) of their flap (8) a second bending (10) with a second coupling portion (10.1), such that the sum of the lengths of the first and second bends (9, 10) of two contiguous major and minor side walls (4.1, 4.2) is greater than that of the mouth of the two chamfer walls (6) between them. In this way the entire length of the mouth of the chamfer walls (6) is covered with said bends.
[0134] As shown in Figure 4, the first coupling portion (9.1) of the first bend (9) of a flap (8) is superimposed with the second coupling portion (10.1) of the second bend (10) of the flap (8 ) from the adjoining side wall. Furthermore, in this second embodiment, the first coupling portion (9.1) of the first bends (9) is fixed by gluing inferiorly to the second coupling portion (10.1) of the corresponding second bending (10). In an alternative embodiment not shown, the sizing may be higher.
[0136] This second preferred embodiment of the invention, as can be seen in Figures 3 and 4, comprises a reinforcing flange (11) of the first kinks (9), which emerges through a folding line (5) from the lower side of the the same.
[0138] In other embodiments, it may comprise a reinforcement flange (11) of the second bends (10), which emerges through a folding line (5) from the underside of the second bends (10) and this reinforcement flange (11 ) of the second kinks (10) may be additional to that of the first kinks (9) or alternative.
[0140] Figure 5 shows a third preferred embodiment of the invention, in which the container (1) has a single chamfer wall (6) between adjacent side walls (4), emerging from the smaller side walls (4.2 ) and, a fixing flange (7) of said chamfer wall (6) that emerges therefrom to be fixed by gluing to the adjacent larger side wall (4.1), internally or externally.
[0142] Figure 6 shows a fourth embodiment of this container (1) in which, between adjacent side walls (4) there is a single chamfer wall (6), which in this case emerges from the larger side walls (4.1 ). In this case, the fixing flange (7) of said chamfer wall (6) emerges from the smaller side walls (4.2), to be fixed externally or internally on said chamfer wall (6).
[0144] As can be seen in Figures 5 and 6, both in the third mode and in the fourth embodiment it is true that the four side walls (4) have a flap (8) that emerges from the upper contour of the same with a central area (8.1) and, from said central area (8.1) of the smaller side walls (4.2), emerges a first bend (9) of a length greater than that of the mouth of the chamfer wall (6) corresponding with a first portion of coupling (9.1), while the central area (8.1) of the flap (8) from the larger side walls (4.1) emerges a second bending (10) coinciding with the second coupling portion (10.1).
[0146] Figure 7 shows a fifth preferred embodiment of the invention, in which between two adjacent major and minor side walls (4.1, 4.2) there is a single chamfer wall (6) respectively, emerging from the sides of the larger side walls (4.1).
[0148] In said fifth embodiment, the fixing flange (7) of this chamfer wall (6) emerges from the chamfer wall (6) itself, to be fixed by gluing externally or internally, on the adjacent minor side wall (4.2) .
[0150] Regarding the flaps (8), each of the major and minor side walls (4.1, 4.2) has a flap (8) that emerges from the upper contour of the same, as shown in Figure 7, the central area (8.1) of said flaps (8) of the larger side walls (4.1) present a first bend (9) that emerges from both ends thereof, of a length greater than that of the mouth of the chamfer wall (6). This first bending (9) comprises a first coupling portion (9.1) for superposition with the central area (8.1) of the flaps (8) of the smaller side walls (4.2), since these do not present a second bending in this case .
[0152] Figure 8 shows a sixth embodiment in which four consecutive chamfer walls (6) emerge from the sides of the larger side walls (4.1) and the fixing flange emerges from the distal chamfer wall (6). (7) to the adjoining minor side wall (4.2).
[0154] It can also be seen that in this sixth embodiment, the flaps (8) of the smaller side walls (4.2) are those that have a first bend (9) emerging from the central area (8.1) thereof, with a length greater than that of the mouth of the four chamfer walls (6). Furthermore, in this case, the central area (8.1) of the flaps (8) of the larger side walls (4.1) has a second bend (10) coinciding with the second coupling portion (10.1) thereof. The first coupling portion (9.1) of the first bending (9) is superimposed superiorly or inferiorly with said second coupling portion (10.1) and in this sixth embodiment they are not glued.
[0155] Preferably, all the proposed embodiments are made of corrugated cardboard.
[0157] This specification also proposes a procedure for making a container (1) for fruit and vegetable products such as the one previously defined. This procedure presents a series of phases consisting of:
[0159] A die-cutting of the cardboard sheet (2), followed by a bending of the side walls (4) facing two by two of the container (1), by the folding lines (5) that separate them from the central sector (3).
[0161] Next, the fixing tabs (7) of the at least one chamfer wall (6) of each chamfered joint of the rectangular central sector (3) are bent and, finally, the fixing tabs are glued. (7) to the container (1).
[0163] In addition, for the execution of this container (1), the procedure has additional phases consisting of the following.
[0165] A first additional phase of folding the flaps (8) of the upper end of the side walls (4) of the container (1) to a position parallel to the central sector (3).
[0167] Although in the embodiments shown in the figures the folding is carried out towards the outside of the container, a person skilled in the art will understand that obviously alternative embodiments in which the folding of the flaps (8) is carried out towards the inside, is also inside within the scope of the present invention.
[0169] Next, a second additional phase of placing the at least first bends (9) of flaps (8) of facing side walls (4) is carried out, according to the mouth of the at least one chamfer wall (6).
[0171] Finally, the superposition of a first coupling portion (9.1) of the first bending (9) of the flaps (8) of two side walls (4) facing the flaps (8) of the side walls (4) is carried out. contiguous.
[0173] Depending on the case, this overlap can be of the first coupling portion (9.1) with the same central area (8.1) of the flap (8) of adjoining side walls (4), or with a second coupling portion (10.1) of said flaps (8). The overlap, as seen in this specification, can be with the first coupling portion (9.1) superimposed above or below the second coupling portion (10.1).
[0175] According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, such as the first proposed embodiment, the method presents a final gluing phase of the superposition of the first bending (9) of the flaps (8) of two side walls (4) with adjoining side walls.
[0177] Likewise, according to a preferred embodiment of the invention, such as the second proposed mode, the method comprises an additional phase of bending a reinforcing flange (11) of the first and / or second bends (9, 10) , which emerges by means of a folding line (5) from the underside thereof. In this alternative embodiment, the method has a final phase of gluing the reinforcing flange (11).
[0179] The described embodiments are only examples of the present invention, therefore, the specific details, terms and phrases used herein are not to be construed as limiting, but are to be understood only as a basis for the claims and as a representative basis that provides an understandable description as well as sufficient information to the person skilled in the art to apply the present invention.
